Lockdown 2 - We return to Zoom!

I would like to thank you all for your patience in awaiting this email.

The government has confirmed in their further guidance last night that dance studios do indeed need to close on November 5th for 4 weeks. Even though we do come under education as we are training our dancers to gain qualifications through examinations, and the RAD qualifications are on the Regulated Qualifications Framework, the government have still specified dance studios as needed to close.

4. Businesses and venues

To reduce social contact, the Government has ordered certain businesses and venues to close. These include:

  • all non-essential retail, including, but not limited to clothing and electronics stores, vehicle showrooms, travel agents, betting shops, auction houses, tailors, car washes, tobacco and vape shops.

  • indoor and outdoor leisure facilities such as bowling alleys, leisure centres and gyms, sports facilities including swimming pools, golf courses and driving ranges, dance studios, stables and riding centres, soft play facilities, climbing walls and climbing centres, archery and shooting ranges, water and theme parks, “

This means that from this Thursday, November 5th, all of our classes will be returning to Zoom! We have done this before, our Zoom classes were a great success and so we can do this again… 4 weeks is easy, we have got this!

Our timetable will remain unchanged and classes will run as usual, apart from on Saturday mornings there will only be one Primary Ballet session which will take place at 11:30 am.

We will be running all of our classes live, so there won’t be any pre-recorded or streamed aspects to the classes; as we want to try and ensure that our classes continue as ‘normally’ as possible for our dancers.

The zoom code we will be using is the usual ‘SGDA Online Streaming’ code, we will send this out to everyone again as it has been a couple of weeks since this code was sent out. Our Zoom guide is accessible through the policies page on the website:

Our top tips for your ‘home studio’ setting are:

  • A 2x2 metre dance space is all that they will need

  • An area which is ideally away from ‘family traffic’

  • If you can mirror from a tablet or smartphone to a tv this would be great, but not a must!

  • If your child takes tap classes, a small piece of MDF board would be great for your dancer to tap on!

  • Keep it positive for your little one, this is only for 4 weeks, we will be back in the studio before they know it :)

So, if your child dances on Mon/Tues/Wed this will be their last week in-studio before going on Zoom. We are so looking forward to seeing the dancers this week wether it be in person up until Wednesday, or online from Thurs onwards, the countdown until Thursday December 3rd (when we will be back in the studio) begins… there’s only 34 sleeps to go!

Once again, we are so grateful to you all for your constant support, understanding and cooperation.

Our very best wishes,

Sophie and the team.
